Department of Sociology

Aminta is from Xenia, Ohio and earned her B.A. in Political Science from Central State University in 2011. She earned her J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2014 before becoming a member of the Indiana bar and beginning graduate school at Indiana University in the Department of Sociology. Aminta’s broad research interests include law & society, organizations, social psychology and theory, as well as race. Specifically, her research examines endogeneity of law in the context of police use of force, focusing on the unique self-regulation of police organizations and the impact of that self-regulation on the communities they police. Aminta is interested in solutions based sociology and works with the goal of blending sociological insights and methods of describing problems with practical and effective legal solutions that benefit communities vulnerable to police violence.
